Oppositions in Bangladesh Jointly Start 'Oust Government' Campaign  - 2004-09-10

The mainstream opposition parties, including the Awami League, announced three weeks of simultaneous demonstrations from September 12 including a grand rally in Dhaka as part of their oust-government movement. The demonstrations also announced by 11 left parties, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and National Awami Party (NAP) include formation of human shields, march to parliament, rallies in district headquarters and demonstration in Dhaka and other cities.

The opposition movement is aimed at dislodging the fundamentalists-allied Khaleda Zia administration from power for what they say are the ruling coalition's failure to deliver and patronisation of Islamic extremism.

They also accused the ruling coalition of the August 21 grenade attacks on an AL rally on Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka that killed 20 people and wounded over 200 others.
