More Violence Across Iraq Kills 12 - 2004-09-15

Insurgent attacks against US and Iraqi troops continued on Wednesday north and west of Baghdad in the rebel stronghold known as the Sunni Triangle.

At least 11 people were killed and six hurt in fresh clashes in Ramadi. There were also attacks in Baquba and Samarra, with few injuries reported.

A U.S. Marine was also killed on Wednesday in fighting in the area.

At an Iraqi National Guard checkpoint south of Baghdad, two Iraqis were killed and 10 wounded when a car bomb exploded.

In the northern town of Tal Afar, the US military says more than 3,000 residents have returned home, since fighting ended Tuesday to eliminate foreign fighters from the town.

Also on Wednesday, Iraqi troops found three decapitated bodies that appeared to be Arabs on a roadside north of the capital.
