US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Torkel Patterson has expressed concern about the growing violence in Bangladesh. In an interview with Bangla Service he specifically mentioned about the vicious and deadly attack on opposition leader Sheikh Hasina’s rally and most recently attack on former President Badruddoja Choudhury and Dr.Kamal Hossain and others. He said as a friend of Bangladesh the US is concerned about the growing violence in Bangladesh.
He, however, praised Bangladesh for the economic development, for self-sufficiency in food and for creating and maintaining democratic model. He also spoke on the good transfer of power through legitimate elections, which he believes is a good example for other countries. And because of that he says the US became more troubled by the recent increase in politically motivated violence.
