Iran Again Rejects European Proposals on Nuclear Issue  - 2004-10-27

European envoys have again failed to persuade Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment activities.

The envoys from France, Britain, and Germany offered Iran a trade deal and help building a nuclear reactor in exchange for an end to Iranian enrichment activities.

Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says his country will stop negotiating if the envoys press on with their demand for a long-term suspension.

The United States says Iran is secretly trying to develop nuclear weapons, a charge the Tehran government denies.

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell says he believes the entire world wants to see the situation resolved peacefully. He added that he has seen no information that Israeli plan to launch a pre-emptive strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.
