Pakistan's Sharif Seeks Return Home To Bury Father - 2004-10-31

Pakistan's exiled former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, says he wants to return home to bury his father, who has died in Saudi Arabia.

The Pakistani government has not yet announced whether it will allow Mr. Sharif to return for the burial.

The former prime minister's party, the Pakistan Muslim League, says his father, Mian Mohammad Sharif, died in the Saudi port city of Jeddah at age 85.

Pakistan's current leader, General Pervez Musharraf, overthrew Mr. Sharif in 1999 and later allowed him and his extended family to go into exile in Saudi Arabia.
