The body of former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has arrived in Cairo for a funeral that will take place Friday.
The 75-year-old leader died early on Thursday at a hospital in Paris. French doctors have not said what illness led to his death.
Plans call for prayer services followed by a military funeral.
Mr. Arafat will be buried at his Ramallah compound in the West Bank where he lived for the past 35 months under virtual Israeli house arrest. Hundreds of flag-waving mourners crowded into a small area near the compound this evening.
Tens of thousands of Palestinian refugees in camps across the Middle East received news of Mr. Arafat's death with grief and resolve. In Lebanon, Palestinians burned Israeli and American flags, while others vowed to pursue Mr. Arafat's dream of Palestinian statehood.
