Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat died today, Thursday, at age 75.
Senior Palestinian officials in the West Bank city of Ramallah confirmed that the ailing Palestinian leader was pronounced dead early this morning in a French military hospital outside Paris, where he has been comatose for a full week.
The chief doctor at the hospital also announced Mr. Arafat's death, which he said came at 0230 UTC.
The Palestinian leader had been on life support since Tuesday.
Wednesday, Palestinian Foreign Minister Nabil Sha'ath said the official funeral ceremony for Mr. Arafat will be held in Cairo and he will be buried at his Ramallah compound in the West Bank.
Mr. Arafat fell ill last month and was flown out the West Bank city of Ramallah on October 29. It was the first time Mr. Arafat left his leadership compound, after being confined there for nearly three years by the Israeli military.
