Bangladesh, China Sign Accords to Bolster Bilateral Ties

Bangladesh and China have signed several agreements at the start of the Chinese prime minister's visit to Dhaka.

Wen Jiabao and his Bangladeshi counterpart, Khaleda Zia, witnessed the signing of the accords during their meeting on Thursday in the Bangladeshi capital.

The agreements include cooperation in peaceful use of nuclear energy in areas like medicine and biotechnology, and the installation of digital telephone exchanges.

The two sides also agreed to start direct flights between their capitals, Beijing and Dhaka, via the southwestern Chinese city of Kunming.

Mr. Wen, who is on a week-long tour of South Asia, is heading a delegation of some 70 Chinese officials and businessmen. On Wednesday, he met with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, and is also scheduled to visit leaders in Sri Lanka and India.
