More Iraq Violence as Leaders Hold Reconciliation Talks

It has been a deadly day in Iraq, where a wave of explosions has killed and injured scores of people. The deadliest attack was near Baquba in the town of Abu Saida. Police say a suicide car bomber set off his explosives near a funeral tent, killing at least 35 people and injuring 50 others.

Earlier, in southeastern Baghdad, at least 13 people were killed when a car bomb exploded in a busy market. The U.S. military says five American soldiers were killed and five wounded in two separate roadside bombings, north of Tikrit (near Bayji). Meanwhile, in Cairo (Egypt), leaders from Iraq's ethnic and religious groups began three days of national reconciliation talks. The meeting got off to a rocky start, when Shi'ite and Kurdish delegates briefly walked out after a Christian representative said Iraq's political process is illegitimate and orchestrated by the United States.
