We were able to vote in 2010 general election, but we were barred from voting in 2015 general election, which was implemented illegally, based on policies. All MPs in 2010 and 2015 election must have been born before 1990 because candidates must be at least 25 years old on the day of paperwork submission. It did not matter if non-Muslims candidates’ parents held citizenship scrutiny cards or not when the candidates were born. But it was made mandatory for the Muslim candidates. All Muslim candidate’s paperwork was rejected with the illogical excuse of not being citizens. The government has double standards. I think this policy is still in practice and I don’t see any possibility for voting rights for Rohingya minority if they do as per policy, adopted this before, Mr.U Shwe Maung told VOA. The Democracy and Human Rights Party (DHRP) raised some legal points with the Union Election Commission to allow our people for candidacy and voting. But the commission just responded that everything shall be according to law and it depends on how the immigration department responds.
