India, Pakistan to Continue Talks on Confidence Building Steps

India and Pakistan have ended talks in Islamabad on how to prevent misunderstandings over their nuclear or conventional arsenals without reaching an accord.

But a senior Pakistani official said agreement had been reached on setting up a telephone hotline between the two foreign ministries "as soon as possible."

Officials from both sides told reporters "some progress" was made and the talks will continue at various levels.

The discussions were part of a cautious peace process re-launched under international pressure early this year after the two rivals alarmed the world by coming close to the brink of a fourth war two years ago.
