Opposition in Bangladesh Complains of the High Handedness of Police


Awami League leaders complained of high handedness by law enforcing agency in Bangladesh in suppressing the protesters.Tofail Ahmed, the former Commerce minister, said that the police have behaved very badly with opposition women activists.

The oppositions' dawn to dusk general strike was dealt with strongly by police in Bangladesh. The police did not allow the opposition to bring out processions or to do the picketing.The police clubbed the members of the opposition whenever they tried to bring out processions or gathered for the picketing. Awami League (AL), 11-Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Inu) and National Awami Party (NAP) called the hartal to protest the killing of AL lawmaker Shah AMS Kibria and four others in the January 27 grenade attack in Habiganj. After the incident, the opposition parties stepped up their agitation demanding resignation of the BNP-Jamaat alliance government blaming it for the killing.
