Karzai to Ask Pakistan for Trade Corridor for Indian Imports

Afghanistan says it plans to pursue the possibility of establishing a trade corridor in Pakistan, to make it easier for Indian exports to reach Afghanistan.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai made the remarks during talks in New Delhi with Indian Foreign Minister Natwar Singh. Mr. Karzai said he had already taken up the issue with Pakistan and would push it further. A Foreign Ministry spokesman told reporters the two men also reviewed Indian-Afghan relations. Mr. Karzai expressed interest in getting more Indian teachers and doctors to Afghanistan as well as more vocational training. Last week, when India's Foreign Minister Natwar Singh was in Kabul, Mr. Karzai urged India to back a gas pipeline from Central Asia through Afghanistan. On Thursday, Mr. Karzai meets with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
