Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has called on voters in North West Frontier Province not to vote for extremists in upcoming elections. General Musharraf made the plea at a public rally in the town of Nowshehra on Wednesday. He urged the crowd to rise against those promoting religious extremism and elect moderates to power. The province is ruled by an alliance of religion-based parties known as the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, which came to power three years ago. The exact date for the provincial elections has yet to be decided, but there are indications they will be held either in April or May.
