Tropical Storms In Bangladesh Kill 91

Officials in Bangladesh say at least 90 people have died in recent days from this year's first batch of tropical storms that swept across the country. They say about 1,000 others have been injured and more than 15,000 people have been left homeless. The thunderstorms hit 25 districts across the country late Tuesday and Wednesday and were accompanied by winds of up to 56 kilometres (34 miles) per hour that flattened thousands of thatched and tin houses.

The deaths came amid collapsed houses, uprooted trees, sinking boats and hail storms in the south and west of the country. Seasonal storms kill hundreds of people in the flood-prone delta-country each year.
