Sunnis, Shi'ites Protest in Iraq

In Iraq on Friday, Sunni and Shi'ite tensions simmered, as the two communities lashed out at each other and the United States. Sunni clerics in Baghdad called for mosques to close for three days to protest what they say are the deliberate killings of some Sunni preachers by members of the main Shi'ite militia -- a charge the militia denies. Meanwhile, in the mainly Shi'ite southern cities of Najaf, Kufa and Nasiriyah, thousands of Shi'ites stomped on Israeli and American flags painted on the ground outside several mosques to protest the U.S. presence in Iraq. The protests were relatively peaceful, but in Baghdad, a car bomb explosion killed two police officers.
