Israel says Syria has test-fired three Scud missiles. Israeli military officials said Friday their air defense systems detected missile launches from northern Syria last week. They say one of the missiles broke up over Turkey, raining debris over two villages. Turkish authorities say no one was hurt and that Syria apologized. Israeli Foreign Minster Silvan Shalom said Friday the missile tests are very dangerous and that a Middle East arms race involving Syria and Iran is unacceptable. Other Israeli officials have expressed concern that the Syrian missiles could carry chemical weapons.
