Blast in Northeastern India Wounds 12

Indian authorities say a bomb blast in the northeastern state of Assam has wounded at least 12 people, including six paramilitary soldiers.

Local police say the incident took place late Sunday outside the base of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force in the state capital, Guwahati. They say the victims were passers-by and off-duty soldiers standing near the gates of the complex.

Police cordoned off the area and a manhunt for the assailants is under way. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. But police suspect it was the work of militants from a separatist group known as the United Liberation Front of Asom, which has been fighting for an independent homeland since 1979.
