Two Die from Wounds after Sunday Blast in Northeastern India

Indian authorities say two of the 12 people wounded in a Sunday bomb blast in the northeastern state of Assam have succumbed to their injuries.

The authorities say the two civilians died late today on Monday in a hospital in the state capital, Guwahati.

The blast took place late Sunday outside a paramilitary base in Guwahati. The victims were passers-by and off-duty soldiers.

Security forces across the state went on high alert following the attack.

No one has claimed responsibility for the blast. But police suspect it was the work of militants from a separatist group known as the United Liberation Front of Asom, which has been fighting for an independent homeland since 1979.
