Bangladesh Sentences 2 Pakistanis to Death for Drug Smuggling

A court in Bangladesh has sentenced two Pakistanis to death for smuggling 24 kilograms of heroin into the country six years ago.

Prosecutors said Rais Khan and Alekjan were arrested in September 1999 at a hotel in the capital city, Dhaka.

Mohammad Ibrahim, a third Pakistani who was arrested with the two, died earlier in police custody.

Drug smuggling is a capital offense in Bangladesh where the number of drug addicts is rising steadily.
