On the occasion of Indian independence day , Prime Minister Manmohan Singh lead the official ceremony amid extremely tight security in New Delhi.. In a speech from the ramparts of a historic fort (Red Fort) in the old section of the city, Mr. Singh said the country must focus on economic growth and ensure that the benefits reach all sections of society. Mr. Singh said "some success" has been achieved in dialogue with Pakistan in attempts to resolve all disputes between the two nations, including the divided region of Kashmir. But he warned of tough response if militant violence in Kashmir continues. In Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh , there were violence which marred the Independence Day Celebration. Police say suspected Maoist rebels attacked a government rally in the southern Andhra Pradesh state, killing at least 10 people, including a state lawmaker. The day was also celebrated in a befitting manner in the Indian state of West Bengal.
