Authorities in Indian Kashmir say at least eight people have been killed and eight wounded in separate incidents blamed on Muslim separatists. Police say security forces clashed with suspected Islamic militants who infiltrated a high-security zone in Srinagar. Two militants and at least one police officer were killed in the shootout that began Wednesday. Hours later, in the northern town of Sopore, a grenade blast killed one person and wounded at least eight others. Elsewhere, four more civilians were killed in two shootouts south of Srinagar. The violence came as a strike by Muslim separatists paralyzed the Kashmir Valley They were protesting the arrest of seven women who were trying to act as morality police.
