Israeli Airstrike Kills Islamic Jihad Leader

Israel has launched an airstrike on a car in the Gaza Strip, killing two Palestinian militants, one of them an Islamic Jihad leader, Mohammed Khalil.

The militant group threatened to abandon a cease-fire with Israel following the attack on Saturday, which wounded two other people.

Earlier, Palestinians said 20 people were injured in an Israeli airstrike on a Gaza school, which Israel said was used to store weapons.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has ordered the military to use any force necessary against militants, blamed for launching a series of rockets into Israel since Friday.

Also today, a key Hamas leader, Mahmoud Zahar said the militant group was ending rocket attacks into Israel, in an effort to protect the Palestinian people. He said Hamas was committed to a cease-fire declared six months ago.
