Pain & Pride: A Mixed Feelings of Dr Ziauddin Ahmed  , A Veteran  Bengali Freedom Fighter

Dr Ziauddin Ahmed, an Associate Professor of Medicine in Philedelphia was a teen ager freedom fighter in the War of Liberation in Bangladesh. His father Professor Shamsuddin Ahmed, in the Department of Medicine in Sylhet Medical College was killed by the then Pakistani Army while still in duty. Dr Ahmed recalls the memory of the past, with a mixed sense of pain and pride. He says that while he was away in the battleground his father , ignoring the danger and threat that he was living in , was performing his humanitarian responsibility of treating the injured in the hospital while he was killed. As a proud son of a martyr, Dr Ahmed is still hopeful that despite all the ordeals that Bangladesh is going through the country will be able to uphold the ideologies of the war of liberation if everyone behaves like a responsible citizen. Although living abroad, Ziauddin’s heart lies in his motherland for which his father laid down his life and for which he fought in the days when he had enormous dreams to dream.
