Clashes Continue in Nepal Over Nagarkot Killings

Riot police in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, have clashed with students as protests continue over the killing of 11 civilians last week by an army soldier. Witnesses say on Monday clashes occurred outside several colleges.

The protesters burnt tires to bring traffic to a halt and threw stones at riot police who tried to unblock the roads. Police fired several rounds of tear gas to disperse them. Similar clashes occurred Sunday after protesters blocked key highways to Kathmandu. On Friday, students clashed with police during a general strike called by the opposition to protest Wednesday's killings near the tourist resort of Nagarkot. Nepal's army says the soldier began shooting after an argument with villagers. It says the soldier also died, but did not say how.
