Pakistan Urged to Identify Journalist's Kidnappers

A leading journalist rights group has called on Pakistan to identify the kidnappers of a photojournalist seized in a northeastern tribal region earlier this month. Paris-based Reporters Without Borders said the inability of Pakistani authorities to guarantee the safety of journalists in the area is undermining press freedom. Gunmen in North Waziristan abducted Hayatullah Khan December fifth, after he reported on the death of an al-Qaida leader in the area. Mr. Khan's report said locals had found wreckage of a U.S.-made missile apparently used to kill the militant leader -- disputing government claims that the fighter was killed when munitions inside a house exploded.
