Dr Mukul Mukherjee is a former Professor of Economics who is now working in Women’s Studies Department in the University of Kolkata. In this exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service, she discusses about the situation of women in India in 2005. She says that the Indian women have achieved a lot in the electronic media. A strong law has been introduced to stop violence against women and an inheritance law which gives women more rights. She says that despite all these , violence and trafficking still persist. She adds that the women in the village need more education and vocational training.
