Former Chief Minister Jyoti Basu had been saying repeatedly that 40,000 new government jobs will be created in the state before the upcoming Assembly elections.
The former CM has said there are almost 80,000 vacancies in the government, of which at least 40,000 will be filled immediately.
However, CPI(M) state secretary Anil Biswas on Tuesday said that was not the case. He said the issue was distorted.
