Author and the founder of the Art of Living Foundation, India's Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
U.S. Congressman Joseph Crowley, who nominated Shankar for the prestigious award, said the spiritual leader and his foundation have brought peace to thousands of people across the world. Crowley -- a Democrat from New York -- said Shankar has helped people from Kosovo to Kashmir, including families of the victims of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City.
The deadline for submission of names to the Nobel Committee is February first. After that, the committee will create a shorter list of finalists for the Nobel Peace Prize. The winner will be announced in Oslo in October.
