Bangladesh's main Opposition party, the Awami League, stayed away on Monday as the New Year session of the country's parliament was opened by President, Iajuddin Ahmed. In his speech, President Ahmed noted the success achieved by Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its allies during four years in power.
