Indian Authorities Say Detainee Not Islamic Militant Leader

Indian authorities say a man detained Sunday is not the leader of an Islamic militant group blamed for a wave of bombings in Bangladesh.

Officials say the detainee, who was arrested in the Indian state of West Bengal, identified himself as Abdur Rahman, which is the same name of the leader of the outlawed Jumatul Mujahedeen.

Authorities say the detainee is a university student in Bagladesh in his early 20s. The head of the outlawed group is nearly 60 years old.

Jumatul Mujahedeen Bangladesh is blamed for hundreds of blasts that rocked Bangladesh on August 17th. Leaflets at the blast sites bore the name of the group and called for the imposition of strict Islamic law.
