Ashura , the tenth day of the holy month of Muharram has been observed amidst solemnity and passionate expression by the devotees who paid their respect to Imam Hussain , the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. Imam Hussain was killed on this day in the Battle of Karbala in the seventh century.
Devotees brought out Tazia processions and in a Shiite manner beat their chest to express their sorrow and protest on the occasion.
