Musharraf to Seek Bush's Support in Preventing Future Insults to Islam

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf plans to discuss with Mr. Bush the controversy over the depiction of Prophet Muhammad in cartoons published last year by Danish and other European newspapers.

Foreign Minister Khursheed Kasuri told reporters that during Mr. Bush's visit to Islamabad later this week, General Musharraf will seek his support for international laws to prevent any future insults to Islam. The foreign minister said General Musharraf will explain to Mr. Bush the outrage over the cartoons among Muslims and how to fill the gap between the Muslim and the Western world.

Mr. Bush ends his visit to India Saturday, then goes to Pakistan where a coalition of radical Islamic groups as well as government lawmakers have staged rallies to protest the cartoons. At least five people were killed last month during the unrest. Opposition groups have planned more countrywide protests on Friday.
