Sharfuzzaman Mukul , a new york based Bengali drama artist says that his attraction to acting as as poem recital is an outcome of the deep artistic environment in which he was brought-up.
Mukul says that his father used to act in plays and his mother used to sing Nazrul’s songs. In an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service Mukul says that he became a drama artist in Rajshahi Radio in 1969 and along with acting in radio drama and sometimes as a play reader he began reading narrations on special programs and reciting Bengali poems.
Sharfuzzaman Mukul recalls his association with Kazi Sabyasachi who was a legend amongst the artists who participated in recitations. Mukul says that as the artists are becoming professionally perfect and they are taking their job of recitation seriously, general audience are getting attracted to this genre of art unlike the previous days when recitation was not valued properly.
