Veteran Congress leader A.B.A. Ghani Khan Choudhury died at a private hospital today. He was 80.
His death symbolized the end of a legendary figure in West Bengal. The leader, fondly called Barkatda by his Congress colleagues and friends, was on ventilator since April 3 after being diagnosed with pancreatitis and renal complications.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi arrived in Kolkata to pay her tributes to the late leader . Political leaders from different shades of opinion including the veteran leftist leader , Jyoti Basu paid their homage going across the party line. Ghani Khan Chowdhury was laid to rest at his native place in Maldah.
