Soaring Energy Prices, Globally


Energy prices are increasing rapidly, driving up wholesale prices. This phenomenon can be seen globally. We focus on that issue in today’s call in show Hello Washington. Our distinguished guests are Dr. Baker Ahmed Siddiquee and Dr.Amit Shovon Ray.

Dr. Baker Ahmed Siddiquee is associate professor of economics at University of Illinois at Springfield. Dr. Siddiquee teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in macroeconomics, international trade and finance, development economics, and econometrics.

His current research interests include trade and globalization, foreign investment, exchange rates economics, and financial crises.

Dr.Amit Shovon Ray is Professor of Economics, Centre for International Trade and Development, School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

His research interests include Economics of Development: Technology, FDI, Economic Reforms, WTO, TRIPS, Indian Pharmaceutical Industry, Social Sectors - Health and Education. Applied Econometrics: Cross sectional and Panel Models.

Listeners asked a range of questions about the soaring price of energy including how developing countries can deal with the situation, what are the reasons behind the high price of energy, is the Iraq war a reason for the high price of fuel, etcetera.
