A mysterious fire broke out at the residence of former president, AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, at Baridhara in the city early Sunday damaging furniture and household articles.
Terming the incident 'premeditated' to kill him and his family, Chowdhury at press briefing in the afternoon, demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident to find out the culprits.
The family members of the former president said that the police guards at the house had raised an alarm at about 5:00am and immediately they woke up amid thick black smoke.
Meanwhile, at a press briefing at his residence in the afternoon, Badruddoza Chowdhury said, 'we want a judicial inquiry committee with sitting judges to probe the cause of the fire.'
He termed the incident an attempt on his life and the lives of his family members and expressed concern over the security of his family.
Dr Badruddoza Chowdhury resigned from the office of the president after a severe criticism from the BNP lawmakers that Chowdhury had failed to show adequate respect to the founder of the party , the slain president Ziaur Rahman.
