Ahmed Tariq Karim , a former Ambassador of Bangladesh in the USA , says that the biggest concern for the USA as well as for Bangladesh is the Islamic extremism in the country or rather the phenomenon of rising Islamism. He says that the extremism of the religious kind is not only bringing an adverse affect on its politics but the economy is also having its negative impact.
In an exclusive interview with VOA Radio and Television , Tariq Karim , who is also a member of the think- tank group in Washington ,favors a direct dialogue between the ruling party and the oppositions to thrash out a solution on electoral reforms and caretaker government . He adds that while Bangladesh was once proud of its homogeneity, gradually the country seems to be vertically divided amidst political polarization and along some unforeseen sectarian lines and sadly Bangladesh has lost now its homogeneous qualities too. Tariq says the question of Ahmadiya which has now been raised in Bangladesh is something alien to the nature of the country . He added that as if the country is in a state of political schizophrenia.
He also mentions that Bangladesh ought to be maintaining a balance diplomatic relation both with India and Pakistan ,irrespective of the fact who governs the country.
