In today’s Hello Washington the topic of discussion was -- Freedom of Press in Bangladesh and Safety of the Journalists. Our guests were A. B. M. Musa and Syed Mohammadullah.
Renowned journalist A. B. M. Musa from Bangladesh is the former editor of Jugantor and former news editor of The Bangladesh Observer. He is a columnist and writes regularly for various papers.
Syed Mohammadullah is a veteran Bangladeshi-American journalist in New York. He is the founder and first editor of Probashi in New York.
The main focus of those who called in was the concern for journalists’safety since many journalists have been killed or beaten up in the line of duty.
The panelists believe media has become powerful and playing the role of opposition and that is why journalists are attacked. They also believe criticism of the politicians or government is part of a democratic society and that is not well understood.
Anis Ahmed hosted the show.
