Azizul Jalil’s book Turbulence and tranquility seems like a journey through the life of the author himself. Jalil ,a former Bengali bureaucrat in the Pakistani days and retired official of the World Bank, wrote a number of essays recalling his past.
Turbulence and Tranquility is a collection of some of the selected essays which make history alive. However, despite an autobiographical element the book goes beyond the self in depicting the contemporary society with its pains and pleasures. The subjectivity in Jalil’s book does not affect the objectivity of events which surround his life. Jalil is planning to write a second book compiling a few more of his essays .
