Pakistani officials say government troops have killed two armed militants who attacked a military checkpoint in the tribal region of North Waziristan.
Officials say the two militants opened fire on a security post on Sunday in the town of Spin Wam. They say Pakistani soldiers returned fire and killed the men, believed to be local Pakistani tribesmen.
Pakistan says its forces also detained five suspected tribal militants in the area today and seized more than 10 grenades.
Islamabad has deployed about 80-thousand troops in the tribal regions bordering Afghanistan to hunt down Taleban and al-Qaida fighters and local tribesmen who support them.
