Terrorist Attacks in Mumbai


In this edition of Hello Washington the topic was – Terrorist Attacks in Mumbai. The guests were Professor Imtiaz Ahmed, Gautam Gupta and Gautam Lahiri.

Imtiaz Ahmed is a Professor in the Department of International Relations at University of Dhaka in Bangladesh.

Gautam Lahiri is the Bureau Chief of Pratidin in New Delhi.

Gautam Gupta is a reporter with the Anandabazar Patrika and Voice of America’s correspondent in Kolkata.

At least seven bombs exploded on packed commuter trains during the evening rush hour on Tuesday in and near Mumbai, the capital of western Maharashtra state in India. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh addressed the nation as investigators looked for clues about who was responsible for the coordinated train bomb blasts that killed at least 200 people and wounded 700. There has been no claim of responsibility.

Callers wanted to know what steps can be taken by the government, society and community at large, will international cooperation help to prevent this kind of violence and tragedy in the future etcetra.
