A leading Muslim group in the United States has criticized President Bush for calling the alleged airline terror plot part of a "war with Islamic fascists."
The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations said Thursday the term equates Islam with fascism. Council Chairman Parvez Ahmed also said Mr. Bush's words contribute to what he called a rising level of hostility to Islam and the American-Muslim community. The group also criticized the alleged plot, saying that American Muslims condemn all acts of terrorism and welcome action by security forces against credible terrorist threats.
Ahmed also applauded U.S. law enforcement agencies for their efforts to deter retaliation against the country's Muslim community.
