Poet Shamsur Rahman passed away at the time when the nation needed him the most. Perhaps this realization made him fight , unsuccessfully though, against death. Shamsur Rahman was the most remarkable Bengali poet in post Tagore-Nazrul era who was awake to the grim realities of his own country. A patriot poet , as Shamsur was , he juxtaposed his romantic imagination of modernism in poetry with the realities of fighting in favor of humanity. Bengali literary critics like Professor Mustafa Nurul Islam, Poet Syed Shamsul Huq and novelist Sunil Gangopaddahay paid rich tribute to the poet.
