Bangladeshi witnesses say more than 200 people were injured when police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd. Those injured include police officers.
Hundreds of people gathered in Dhaka on Thursday to protest two days of electricity shortages that left residents of the capital with little power. The stone-throwing protesters also attacked an office during the protest.
The power shortages also have affected drinking-water supplies in the city.
Bangladesh frequently suffers from power outages and electrical shortages.
