US: Talks on Iran Sanctions Resolution to Begin in Next Few Days

The United States says world powers are to begin talks on a U.N. sanctions resolution against Iran for its nuclear program in the next few days.

The State Department says officials from the U.S., Britain, France, Russia and China, the five permanent U.N. Security Council members plus Germany have reached a broad agreement on the resolution but must iron out specific sanctions.

Diplomats from the six countries held a video conference Wednesday on Iran that included European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

In the Iranian city of Shahriar, Iran's president said his country is being -- quote -- "bullied" by some world powers over its nuclear program. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did not name those countries but said the U.N. Security Council has no right to interfere in Iran's nuclear program.

Western nations allege Iran is working on a nuclear weapons program -- a charge Tehran denies.

Iran ignored an August 31st U.N. deadline to stop enriching uranium or face possible Security Council sanctions. Two members of the council -- Russia and China -- have expressed reluctance to impose sanctions on Iran.
