Bangladesh has discovered a new gas field near the capital Dhaka with approximate reserves of up to 500 billion cubic feet (Bcf).
Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) found the gas field located in block 9 at Gazipur, about 40 km (25 miles) north of the city, after months of survey and exploration. BAPEX is the exploration and production arm of Petrobangla, the state oil and gas agency.
