The management of Sangu Gas Field on Friday was scheduled to stop its gas supply from Saturday morning to pave the way for digging a new well and setting rig at Well No 10 in the Bay of Bengal.
The suspension of gas supply would last two days. The original plan to start digging a new well by suspending gas supply from Thursday midnight could not be implemented, as sea was rough for digging well and setting the rig, sources said.
According to sources, with the Sangu authority stopping its gas supply the country particularly the port city of Chittagong would face acute gas and power problems. Gas production from Sangu Gas Field is 90 mmcf per day. The stoppage of gas supply from the field would halt the production of fertilizer at different fertilizer factories and also generation of electricity from gas-based power plants.
