Indian Foreign Minister Visits Bangladesh


The Indian external affairs minister, Pranab Mukherjee visited Dhaka to extend an official invitation to Bangladesh to attend the 14th summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, to be held in New Delhi in April, 2007.

Mr. Mukherjee said India would continue to work to develop good neighborly and friendly relations with Bangladesh.

He met with President Iajuddin Ahmed, Chief Adviser of the caretaker government Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, former Prime Ministers Begum Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina.

India has offered to import 2 million pieces of garment free of duty from Bangladesh in a bid to reduce the huge trade deficit between the two countries.
