A court in Bangladesh has ordered police to investigate allegations that former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia ordered a grenade attack on an opposition rally that killed 24 people in 2004.
Twenty-seven others, including Zia's son, Tareque Rahman and senior members of her Bangladesh Nationalist Party are also under investigation.
At least 24 people died in the 2004 attack during an Awami League rally in the capital, Dhaka. It was widely believed to have been an assassination attempt against Zia's political rival, Awami leader and former prime minister, Sheikh Hasina. She escaped with minor injuries.
Ms. Zia, who was in power at the time, denied she had tried to kill her rival.
